Do masons generally have good job stability?

I was looking at apprenticeships, and brick/block masonry looks kind of like something I would enjoy doing. But I'm worried that I would have trouble finding work after the apprenticeship is over. Is it pretty much all independent contracting or are there companies out there that would hire you and basically pimp you out to people who need stuff built?
