Do any Christians ever feel that they should just stop listening to mans teachings of the Bible?

Don't get me wrong, I believe in the utter importance of the teachings of the Bible, yet I sometimes feel that man can do a great disservice to what the Bible is truly trying to teach due to their own biases, and their desire to spin things using fear tactics in order to promote their own personal agendas. I think that there is too much "cherry picking" going on. I've been feeling like the best way for me to get the true meaning of what God is saying is to just read the Bible while asking the Holy Spirit to give me wisdom and to guide me. It seems that I just get more confused about things when I listen to everyone else's interpretation. I feel that many can misrepresent God and his Word.
